We have a 245TRBL black label 5th wheel. Last month, one of bedroom windows shattered, while at storage. We chalked it up to being vandalized.

Took it to the dealer to have it repaired. While at the dealer, two more windows shattered.

Has anyone else had any issues with these windows just shattering?

Nothing out of the ordinary, as far as cold snaps go. A little concerned about this trend, since the last thing we need, is for this to happen at 60 mph. Thanks in advance.

Moved thread from the General Tech and Repair section to the Windows, Awnings and Doors sub-forum since the OP's questions are specific to Windows and are not general tech questions.

Windows, as a commodity, are not supposed to self-distruct (shatter). No one purchases a window, or any product that comes with windows, expecting said windows to shatter sua sponte" (Latin for "of one's own accord").

That being the case, it appears that said windows fail the Implied Warranty of Merchantability and Fitness. One might argue that they are defective because they have failed to operate as intended and expected (unshattered) and and such, are unfit for use.

I hope these are covered under warranty. Hopefully, no one was injured. Please keep us posted.

Just curious here do they shatter into large pieces or tiny small chunks? The reason I ask is to find out if they are tempered glass. Tempered glass is cut to size then heat treated in a furnace and can not be cut later like regular glass can.

Since several windows shattered you might want to file with the NHTSA as it a safety hazard for drivers around you. I would be like you if it was one window. it could be vandalism.

I would be couious if others had a simular issue.

No experience with this. A possible cause comes to mind...and it ain't pretty.

Depending on which windows and mounting method, is it possible that the body of the rig is flexing/distorting somehow and applying stresses to the glass? As bizarre as this sounds, if the structure holding the window flexes, it might break the glass. It might be worth a visual inspection to see if the body of the rig is no longer square and plumb.

It's far more likely that your glass came from a bad batch...and should be recalled.

That’s interesting, yes it was smaller pieces.

I’ll definitely check this out. My father in law brought this up also. Hopefully this isn’t the case lol

Jason,
I just posted about my glass shattering 3 different years whilst in storage, never whilst driving. Vandalism very unlikely for us, but possible, I guess. No answers as yet. Marcel
