I would get a PVC valve with barb fittings and use compression clamps. Out TT has a PEX line and I used a PEX valve. I don't recommend using PEX fittings with the type line you have.

If access is awful, a pex cutter and swage device make it easy.

A hacksaw and shark tooth fittings could work. Not so easy.

That looks to be a 1/2 inch line. You can get barbed ball valves at any hardware store. Get a couple of screw clamps to tighten the hose to the valve. I've found that it is best to use a nut driver to tighten the clamps. You can use a screw driver, but a nut driver holds better.

Stainless "worm" clamps will work but I've switched to the "fuel line" type clamps and they work so much better at giving full clamping with no flat spot where the worm gear would be. Your nut driver suggestion is valid with these too.
