Slide out by main floor

Hello all. I recently got a 32 RKTS. New to RV but familiar with construction. This one stumps me. Where the slide out meets the floor, there is a bump up. I have searched and got different answers as to why this is. I feel it should extend out and sit level. Others have told me this is normal. So half of the slide out sits on an angle and half sits flat. Why wouldn’t the factory level the floor of the slide out, if this was the case? The two chairs closest to the main floor are angled. Has anybody made a work around by leveling the floor on the back side along the wall or is this not supposed to be like this? Thank you in advance

That is the way "slide rooms" are built. They can't be level with the stationary floor as the slide room has rollers on the bottom to aid and assist in in/out movement.

As DW stated, the slideout floor has to fit above the trailer floor when it is closed, so it sits above the floor when extended. It's hard to design around this. They couldn't use tracks with an offset that dropped the slideout when fully extended, because that would open up a gap at the top of the slideout opening.

I've observed that the designers on our Cherokee 38P carefully made sure this step never caused a problem. On the big slideout, the Hide-A-Bed couch fills the slideout. Its seat might be an inch lower than usual, so you wouldn't notice when sitting there. Also the dinette benches are completely contained on this slideout. You don't notice, when sliding onto them, that the floor beneath them (and the table between them) is raised.

The little slideout holds the head (maybe 18") of the twin bed. The bed structure is level; the top is parallel to the floor.

I'm wondering if there's a way to re-arrange furniture in your rig so you don't encounter the transition. How about posting the floor plan of your unit for suggestions, maybe marking it up with your current furniture. When posting, be sure to observe the red line in my sig.

Makes sense

I will take some pics. I get it has to be raised so it can close. I still don’t understand why not build up the floor on the backside so when extended and fully open it will be close to level. I am say build top up, not underneath where it needs clearance. I have actually thought about building a booth style table turned the other way…?
