Slide out noise

Hello, just recently over the last 2 weeks, we have been noticing a noise coming from our slide out. We have a 2016 apex coachman, 28 foot with a bunk house room. We only have one slide. Up until recently we've had no issues with it. The gears get lubricated twice a year.

When we extend the slide out during the middle of the process there is a clunking sound and at the end there is a clunking sound which almost could be heard as banging. When we checked underneath the slide out , there does not appear to be if any stripped teeth on the rails or gears.

I almost feel like the motor or something is getting bound up. I do not have any experience with this type of issues since our slide has been working fine gor the last 8 years. Any information that people may have had with this issue would be appreciated. If I have not described this well enough, then please let me know. Thank you..

Moved thread from the General Community Discussion section to the Tech and Repair section's Slideouts sub-forum since the OP's questions are specific to that particular sub-forum and are not general community questions.

It's not unusual for that type of sound to come from the slides tracking parts. It could be a cylinder type roller or the plate that it rides on is loose or missing. Depending on the slide model, a bearing type roller could have worked itself loose or off.

Hopefully you can get a good visual of the defect while the slide is moving - although sometimes hard to see. You might have to remove a seal or piece of trim to see the defective part(s) or get to it for repairs.

I would try getting a diagram from the manufacturer.

... working for 8 years - you got a good one.

It's pretty much certain because it's constantly discussed here, getting such diagrams from any of the Towable divisions, is virtually impossible. Many have contacted their Towable division for such diagrams, only to be refused.

For my slideout, this was the gearbox housing. When I found the gearbox, the cover was physically warped. This drives the sprocket that moves the Slideout in and out.
