Are Slide Out Topper worth the money ? Pros and Cons please ..

In my opinion, absolutely!

Just slip one time walking around on the top of your camper to sweep off the leaves and sticks from a weekend trip and you'll get them... quickly!

Even worse, get a limb caught under the seal when the slide closes completely and tears the seal. While having it replaced for a grand and while it is being repaired, you'll just tell the dealer 'while you are at it, put toppers on".

Made the mistake of not getting one installed when we bought our trailer.
A year later we paid CW 3x the cost for one .
But was still worth it.
Would never buy another RV without them.

What would you if it snowed? You would not be able to get the slide in and it would not be easy to sweep off the snow.

They are essential.

Have had them on 2 Rockwoods. Necessary for all the above reasons!

We are grateful for ours. Parked near trees and didn't realize it was full of nuts. We checked but are glad we didn't have to sweep off the slides.

just read a line here about the topper shredding so now they pull the slide in with bad weather ... why not just a ladder & broom????

also be aware of your trailer weight. I'm right at GVWR when I load up with gear and water in the fresh tank (I only have 950 pounds of cargo capacity on my Tracer Air 250). Not sure what those weigh, but I can't sacrifice any cargo weight as much as I'd like to have one. I just climb up the same 3 step step ladder my kids use for the bunk bed and sweep it with the broom before we run the slide in if we are camping under trees.

Ripped one last year in the wind. It has been very windy this summer traveling through Wyoming and Montana. If the wind gets really bad I pull all 3 slides in about 2/3 of the way. We have slept in that state several nights this summer. I worry when I am away from the rig. I do like them as they keep things a bit cooler and much cleaner. Some also flap in the wind, can be annoying when sleeping.

Just be careful if retracting after ice storm.....a couple years ago in MS had 2 inch sheet of ice on mine.....a 3x6 sheet 2 inches thick can do some damage falling from 10 feet.....I always watch the slides go in so got first hand view......make sure all clear below.....as hoses and electrical are usually in that area.....even the 6 x 8 sheet on TV bed cover can damage when you push it off.....

I was at Fort Bragg NC had an ice storm was getting ready to leave and THe slides are my last thing to pull in. Load and behold. I heard this Tremendous snap and crash had ice about an 1" thick on it. My point of the story is that how would I get that ice off the slide roof without a topper....

Why would anybody try to leave a C/G if there was/had been a Ice storm anyway? Just sit tight and have a Drink! Youroo!!

Because, NC is not Ohio, Do you guy's have plows besides what your use to clean the pig pens out up there? Some States use there gas tax monies. In Ohio the politicians just line there pockets...

I also worry about the toppers in high wind. We had a strong storm here on the OR coast a week ago. 60mph wind gusts included. We spent the night with the 3 slides pulled in. Better to be safe than sorry. Toppers are not cheap.
