Going to be winterizing the TT for the first time and was wondering what the socket size was for removing the anode on the hot water heater. Thought I saw a size here before but cannot seem to find the thread...

TT is at a storage unit and just want to make sure I have all of the stuff I need.

It is a suburban water heater.

Thanks for the help.

1 1/16" with a short extension

Remember to release the pressure by opening a hot water faucet or you will get a bunch of water rushing out under pressure. I did that yesterday and got very wet.

It's a 3/4" pipe thread and you may find that its in there pretty tight. Bring a breaker bar or even a short length of pipe for leverage. A 6 point socket would be best.

I had a hard time finding a socket for it, Lowes & Home Depot didn't have them but Sears does.

Got mine at Tractor Supply Store.
Fire Instructor...Why not Goop?

Read several posts from folks that it acted as much as a "super-glue" than as a sealant, including one case where the tank was damaged trying to remove the plug. I asked a tech about it, at the local CW, and he told me that their folks ae all taught to use tape, not goop. Sorry that I can't give a more scientific reason, but it was enough reason for me!
