The learning curve with this 12 volt fridge issue has been ongoing. I would like to share what I have learned and hope some of this will help others.
2024 Forest River FLT21FBRS
Magic Chef 11cf 12 volt refrigerator
After our first run I joined the forum due to the fridge not being cold enough. I learned about the recall [thanks so much] which I performed. Our next trip was uneventful.
I have the camper plugged in to house current through the winter storage months. Twice this winter when checking on things the refrigerator was running! I would shut it off [ press and hold for 10 seconds until 2 lights are on]. 3 or 4 weeks later I went to check on the camper and it was running AGAIN! [Findings and fixes to follow.]
When parking the camper I have the fridge doors cracked to allow air flow so the fridge was cooling the whole camper! Frustration is too kind a word.
First the cause. In our area power outages are common. As it turns out , every time we had a power failure, the shutdown somehow signaled the fridge to turn on with return power. The shut off routine was useless. What to do?
Photos will show MY fix to this problem which has put me at ease knowing I have removed power from the fridge completely.
Removing the breaker panel exposed the fridge wires as being purple [+] and white [-]. I simply installed a switch in line in a convenient spot that allows the fridge to be turned off manually. For me removing the fuse every time was not an option as the panel does not appear strong enough for constant abuse.
The last photos are simple brackets that can be made to hold the doors open for storage.
No one needs the headaches while camping when all we're looking for is a relaxing weekend with a cold beer.

Thanks for all the great posts and hope this helps someone.

As you have discovered, this fridge will turn on whenever the power is restored from the off mode. Like when I turn my battery switch to on, I know the fridge will start running. I just pull the 20A fuse dedicated to the fridge when it's in storage or when I'll be messing around with turning the 12V power on and off over a few days for other reasons when we're not camping. I think I have the same fuse panel as you, or darn near close, and it doesn't seem to cause any wear and tear by removing the fuse. Glad you found a work-around with the switch that gives you peace of mind. After all, peace of mind is what camping is all about!

I'm a bit on the lazy side so as much as I'd like to install a switch, I just never seem to get up the gumption to do it. So I'm a fuse puller.

Me tooo. Just pull fuse

Or at least just get a push button switch that uses a round hole …. 10 second install

But I keep my 12v fridge on all the time

Never have to worry about … it won’t work properly after I dewinterize

Use it or lose it… it’s my second fridge to stash goodies away from prying eyes

I'm a bit on the lazy side so as much as I'd like to install a switch, I just never seem to get up the gumption to do it. So I'm a fuse puller.

Thanks for the replies. I DO like to tinker though. My shock was opening the camper door and hearing the fridge run when I never turned it on. This switch just gives me piece of mind. Cheers

Upon closer examination I do like the brackets you made to hold the fridge doors open while in storage. Nice job on them.

I installed a switch. Switch rated to 12VDC 30A and the Wago's are rated to 32A. The fuse they use is a 20 A.

I like the brackets also to hold doors open. I have been using rolled up paper towel.

Actually, turning on after a power outages is a DESIRABLE choice.

Suppose it was the first day of a week-long trip. The refrigerator is completely stocked. You leave on a hike or trip at 9:00 am. At 9:10, there's a 10-second outage. You return to the camper at 6:00 pm to make dinner.

Which would you prefer to find?
  1. The refrigerator started back up and all your food is fine.
  2. The refrigerator failed to start and all your food has spoiled.
