Hello, anyone have any insight into what the angled steel welded to the beam does? This is on a 2024 Coachmen Prism

Thanks,
Chris

Moved thread from the Motorhome section's Mercedes Benz Sprinter Chassis sub-forum since the OP's questions are specific to a Mercedes Benz Chassis.

It’s a skid plate, or in your case, a skid triangle to help protect your undercarriage from hitting bottom when you enter a driveway that’s too steep an angle. There’s a lot of important components on the underside of your rig. Expensive repairs if you hit any of them.

Edit: If you find yourself entering at a steep angle and making contact, back up, and enter as close as possible to a 45 degree angle.
DO NOT just keep continue scraping these bars.

OK...I would think that the factory would have cleaned the welds and painted them that's why I asked..doesn't make a difference either way, just aesthetics...

There have been a few quality issues that I have come across on this unit. I know some are to be expected but for instance, when I was upgrading the solar package on it, it was discovered by the technician that the house was not grounded to the chassis, which in my mind is a pretty major deficiency. There was also another smaller issue when I went to pick up the unit. The rear license plate holder and light had not been installed at the factory so this had to be rectified before I could leave the lot.

And you purchased this unit brand new?

I believe that anything welded or cut to a Mercedes chassis voids the MB chassis warranty. Bolted on accessories must be in existing frame points. At least that’s the way I remember reading my owners manual. It’s only been two years ago. That definitely looks after factory, but never say never. Good luck

Is that near the rear bumper or tow hitch? If so then like my rig, they are there to keep you from bottoming out the tow hitch when going off a steep angle such as a driveway. You can tell when they hit.
