I have been reading this forum for about 5 years and have enjoyed the information and I have learned a lot about RV camping. We recently lost our camper to a hale storm/tornado. We replaced it with a used one bought from an individual. On our first trip the stove would not light. Nothing seamed to be coming out of the burner, not even air. I checked the tank valve and regulator setting and all looked good. I decided to try the refrigerator and it sputtered a few times and lit up. I checked the stove again and it worked. I put the refrigerator back on AC finished cooking and shut down the stove. The next time I tried to use the stove, the same thing happened. At home I tried the furnace one cool morning and it would not start so I turned the refrigerator to gas and then the furnace started up fine. I carried the camper to an RV repair place and they tested the gas system pressure and for leaks and it tested fine. Anny suggestions as to what the problem might be would be appreciated?

The propane stove is usually the furthest point on the propane line.
The first thing we do when camping is to turn on the stove and light it. When the flame is blue and not sputtering, the propane will flow to all systems.
If it doesn't light at first, turn it off and try again. You've got to bleed the air out of the lines for it to operate properly. It's not like a gas stove at home where the gas lights immediately.

You might want to crack open a window or door if you don't like the smell of propane.

If you hadn't had it tested, you might have had insects blocking the line.

Welcome to the forum!

I did a reset on the high flow valve but the stove would not light. I tried the refrigerator and it worked and then the stove would light. If it was the high flow valve shouldn't the refrigerator also not light?

The propane line from the tank goes to the hot water heater (which I have not used) then the stove, refrigerator, furnace and finally a quick disconnect at the back of the trailer for propane appliances. On previous travel trailers I used the stove to purge the lines but this one doesn't seem to ever purge, so I tried the refrigerator and it started and then the stove lights and works fine.

Thanks boondocking, I didn't know the stove regulator would lock out when the pressure gets high but that would explain what is happening. We have had high temperatures here in Alabama and with the regulator keeping the pressure up at night and the temperatures going up to the 90's during the day might cause this problem. I can relieve the pressure and use it on our next trip and hope the cooler temperature will help the problem.

There is usually only one regulator in the system
each appliance is designed to work within a gas system that has X amount of pressure and flow....
Looked at several install manuals for RV cooktops and stoves none showed a regulator
before you spend a lot of time pulling the system apart

possible the regulator at the BOTTLE is faulty

Or if the gas system has not been used for a long time
gas lines may require a service / cleaning

search for water or oil in propane tank

Not sure what you may have looked at but for years, the Suburban stove has used a regulator right at the stove LP supply connection.

Thanks to all that provided information on this problem. I just went out to the trailer and the stove would not work so I connected the quick disconnect line for my grill and opened the valve. The stove started up immediately. I will check into changing out the stove regulator.

Thanks
