Here in the Ohio valley we are under storm watch for possible freezing rain and snow and bitter cold.
My son works at Lowes and he sent me this photo this morning with the caption-
"$999 and going like hot cakes."
Zooming in it looks like they are
dual fuel and 7500 watts
My wife is going to Kroger later this morning for her usual Friday grocery shopping but I have a feeling
the parking lot and store won't be as laid back as usual!

We are in western VA and expecting the usual run on bread and milk..... ........ Let it snow ( we are expecting ice.......) . We don't go large scale grocery shopping but monthly.... we do pick up a few things at a Dollar General in town as needed.......... Just lean how to deal with the winter etc. as the closest full grocery store is over 30 miles away. Local small town with only the Dollar General 6 miles.......................... Loose power several times monthly (in good weather)......... so a generator is a must.......

Big weather event coming to the central part of the country. In the Kansas City are the prediction is ice turning to snow this weekend with numbers being tossed around of a foot or more of snow. Then fridgid temperatures. A foot here is a pretty big deal.

That is a pretty good deal for 7500W generator. Add another 50o dollars for a legal hookup and one should be good to go.

The storm, at this time, should miss Maine. It seems that most people in Maine outside of the major cities, have wood heat backup or wood heat primary heating. I have my lifepo4 batteries and inverter ready to go for light, phones, computer, TV, etc. Fill the bathtub for water for flushing. Drinking water provided by Poland Spring.

We are wired for our portable 5500 watt and for our main 20Kv generators as living in the country our power goes out too often......... Nice thing we can hardly hear either one or any outside noises as the builder did a great job in 2022 building the house . Hardly know when thunderstorms come through.

:signhavefun:

Maybe a silly question on my part but do they even make inverter generators in the 7500 watt range?

I guess I need to do some research as I have no idea why one needs or what an invertor generator is............. Always think that I have had and used a regular generator.

Christmas time 2022 was the last "big" arctic chill that I recall. Made a mad dash for Montgomery AL area thinking that would be warm enough, some pipes froze in the campground and broke faucets, mid teens there. Ok with what I had in my tanks though. That one was just a couple of days.
Mid January last year, had to go as far south as Augusta GA for two weeks to escape it. Did not think it was that long until I just looked at my records but there were enough trails around to keep me busy.

Generally quieter, sometimes more fuel efficient, smoother/better regulated output so good for electronics, most now have "eco" mode where they run at lower RPM to save fuel/noise when only a low load is needed. Also usually more expensive and a little harder to work on if something goes wrong. I own both, an old school generator I bought years ago when I needed something cheap for a project, and an inverter model that can parallel with a second unit if I wish to double power that I used when boating and now as a back up at the campsite.

Getting back to the topic at hand, we've received about 2 feet of snow over the last few days and still snowing but no real issues. We are in snow belt and used to dealing with it. Most people know how to drive in it, local governments have the equipment to deal with it, most homes are heated with natural gas, so even if power goes out the gas pumping stations have back up generators and gas fireplaces are in almost all newer houses, so even though the blower won't work, there is still some heat in the house. I can see how it's always a much bigger deal in the areas that aren't used to it and where there are a lot more issues with freezing rain/ice that cause havoc on roads and power grids. Wishing that everyone in those areas stays safe and is prepared.

Ya we are expecting 3-6 inches of snow and 1/2 inch of ice.......... hope they are wrong.....
but we have heat pumps here but gas logs for extra heat but the main thing is the 20Kv home generator........... we have put about 100hrs on it in a little over a years time.........

I just returned to the house after running the generator for 1/2 hour or so and checking to see the spare gas cans were full. Guess we are ready.

Ours is a Champion 7.5KW (not Kv) 240-volt inverter generator. It is wired to feed the entire house if and when needed.
