Today I Learned...

If you need blind spot radar then your driving abilities are questionable.
Yep......but then, owner's manual's these days also have to explicitly state "Do not drink the battery acid".....

Wow! Lane Departure Warning, Collision Avoidance Warning, Don't drink the battery acid? How did folks become this stupid?
Cell phones and social media were invented.

In our days we just let them die in horrific, preventable crashes.

Amazing Grace is the most popular Christian hymn ever written. It has been recorded over 7,000 times. It was written by a Briton name John Newton who was 47 when he wrote it. John started adult life in a forced enlistment in the British Royal Navy which he fled. He then worked on a ship transporting enslaved people. On one trip while returning to London a storm hit his ship and swept many of his mates out to sea and their death. Later pondering his survival, he concluded it was the hand of God that saved him. He left the sea, got married and became a clergyman and an ardent abolitionist. He is considered one of the people most responsible for the legal end of slavery in Britain.

I was watching a YouTube channel I subscribe to for travel tips (mainly TSA) and learned that certain medicines like Sudafed, Vicks nyquil, Ritalin, and Adderall are illegal in Japan....even if just in an airport there as a layover.

I learned that the eggs from the largest grocery chain located near me are actually 3 weeks old before being put on display. Heard this from one my surgical team who also owns a farm, selling eggs, chicken, beef and pork so his reporting may be biased.
I was finishing up a 1 hour procedure getting a stent put in my L carotid (neck) artery where they enter at the groin and for some reason they want you awake.
When the talk switched from wire length and stent sizes to fresh eggs and beef the woman administering the slight anesthesia leaned over and said, "welcome to a typical post-op discussion. Feel free to chime in." So I also learned how surgeons calm down after performing an operation.

don't remember being awake for mine?
been there twice ... nurses are getting to know me
one of em even knew my name!

as for eggs next time ask them the important question
which came first?

Eggs came first, dinosaurs laid eggs.

The bigger question is why do we wash the cuticle off of our eggs in the US so that now they require refrigeration, when in Europe they leave them natural and they can sit on the counter? All that water and energy wasted washing the eggs so that now they require more energy to keep fresh?

Lucky for us, we have farm fresh eggs in our home.

Your comment had me look up "why do we wash eggs in the US?" Interesting the group of countries where eggs are washed vs those that don't. Surprised to see Japan as the only listed Asian area washer. Bottom line, washing does significantly increase the cost of eggs,; once washed an egg needs to be continuously refrigerated, which isn't cheap. On the other hand, an unwashed egg has a shelf life of about 21 days and a washed egg will be edible for up to 50 days.
I was watching an episode of "To catch a smuggler". The agent found eggs in someones luggage and was concerned whether or not is was cooked. I've always thought the easiest way to tell the difference between an raw and cooked egg was to spin it. A raw egg will go around maybe 2 times, while a cooked (hardboiled) egg will spin for quite a while... (Yess, I have too much time on my hands.... ;) )

Today I learned two things.

1.Alice has nothing on me when it comes to going down rabbit holes.

2. While doing further research on the Indianapolis based Stutz car company, I learned their 1971 Blackhawk car had a 17 inch rim diameter Firestone run-flat tire on it, named the LXX. This appears to my research so far to be the only car it was put on, and the tire was pulled off the market fairly quick as it didn't live up to the purpose. Elvis beat out Frank Sinatra to get the first Blackhawk sold to the public.

As someone who never listens to song lyrics except in comedic/parody songs, but instead go for the rythym......today I learned the meaning behind of my favorite songs.....and am not sure how I feel about it.

I am a child of the 70's/80's era. I wore out a .45 record of Heart's 'Barracuda' song and it's still to this day is one of my favorites.

However, now after learning why it was written, I can now hear the venom in Ann Wilson's voice as she sings it. She's mad/disgusted at the record label/industry and I don't blame her.

It's really a NSFW reason (lies done as a publicity stunt) behind the song, and you need to google it if you don't know.....as we don't need to discuss it here.

My childhood memories may be ruined. LOL

Interesting, well the song technically revolves around anger at a record company. A lot of songs that you might never guess were aimed at the record industry, look up Billy Squier "The Stroke". It's not what you thought it was when you were young.

It's kind of but not quite like the White Stripes song "Seven Nation Army". He thought the Salvation Army organization was an actual army.

Not today but this winter, I learned that if equipped, different LiFePO4 batts use different methods of self heating.

It was the first time since install, that I could check the heaters on my Epochs. The app showed internal temps as below freezing. I had assumed the heaters would prevent that and called the co. Was told these batts will not self consume to run the heaters. The BMS cuts off charging at freezing (so they're safe) but the heaters are only powered by an outside source. In my case, solar. Once the outside source provides enough to bring temps back above freezing, the BMS allows charging again. I have confirmed this with observation.

Anyway, I know some have manual switches to run the heaters and will self consume. Apparently, it doesn't have to be that way.
