Took my car out for an oil change and ended up 'screw-ed"

Yesterday was certainly an expensive day. Took my car to the dealer for an early morning oil change appointment. While waiting I wandered into the showroom and talked to a salesperson about what they had for a new truck I was thinking about buying this fall. Ended up with a quote and left not being particularly impressed with their offer.

Went home and cut some fresh flowers that I took to my Daughter at her place of work. Now faced with the rest of the day to find something to do I stopped at a dealership for a different brand to see what might interest me, again not having the slightest desire to buy a new truck until fall.

That's when I got "SCREWED":)

It was a Ford Dealership and I started looking at different F-150 Supercrews, just wanting a quote on one that fit my needs/desires.

Started looking around 1PM and didn't get home until 8:30 PM. Ending up leaving my 2017 Chevy Volt behind and driving home with a really nice, brand new 2023 F-150 Supercrew 4X4 with 3.5 Ecoboost, 7150 GVWR, 16,800 GCWR. With my trailer attached, and me aboard, I will be able to load up another 900# of "stuff" in the truck about 500# more than I have ever carried before.

400hp and 500 lb/ft (or ft/lbs if you prefer) of torque will certainly take some getting used to as well as seeing fuel mileage averages around 22+mpg with a non-diesel pickup. And then there's the 36 gallon tank which will probably carry me much farther than my bladder will allow:)

Even my Son, who saw it this evening, was duly impressed during his test drive.;)

Needless to say the "take home price" was one I couldn't pass up with all the incentives and discounts. Certainly didn't mind getting "SCREW-ed" like this

HMMM? if I no longer have the Titan (it will be gone soon) I might have to change my Screen Name

Note: Local Ford dealers don't seem to have any 2024 F-150's in stock but have a ton of new 2023's with nice "incentives". The one I took home was certainly well enough equipped for me so it being "last years model" was a non-issue. One I drove home was delivered wit 91 miles and that came from when it was transferred from another store in the "Dealership Group"

Sounds like a really nice truck. I’m sure that you’ll like it. How about some pictures when you get a chance.

Mike, you're going to love that truck, towing or not. I've the same model but a 2018 that I bought used last year and am continually amazed at it's capabilities. That 36 gal tank will take you further than your bladder will.

Congratulations! I love trucks especially new ones. I have been looking into buying a van and converting it into a campervan. I have been cruising the WEB to learn as much as I can.

Apparently, the auto industry experts are predicting a crash of sorts in sales and prices in 2024. Right now inventories are high, prices are high, and interest rates are high. This is the "perfect storm" coming up in 2024 for dealerships to cut prices and for some to go "belly up".

You will love the 3.5 Ecoboost! My Son has a 2011 with over 180,000 miles. Oil changes at 10K. Never misses a beat. Water pump at about 130K but other than that and maintenance it has been reliable and a workhorse. Newer ones get better mileage. His is about 18-19 at 75-80 mph. 16 around town.

FYI, I don't think Ford is making any 2024 F150s, no idea why but when I was building my 2024 F350 on the Ford site I noticed 2023 was the only F150 option to build. And it is still the same today.

A good part of the story is the some lucky person with get a nice used Chevy Volt someday.

And also the opportunity to replace the "big battery".

That was part of the decision to let it go.

ALSO-

Yesterday I stopped at my insurance agents office to get insurance on new truck. The truck will cost me $17 more every 6 mos. than what I was paying for the volt. This was a graphic illustration of how expensive EV insurance has become.

Friends wife called him at work

EEEEEEEEEEEEK spider is in the car
he told her to get the bug spray

Too late dear.... am at the dealer buying a new one

TRUE story.

Congratulations on your new truck. It's always dangerous to 'just browse' a dealership.

I haven't browsed a dealership in over 14 years. In the past I have used USAA Car Buying Service. Used the service to find the rig I wanted at a pre-negotiated price and no dealer/salesman antics, and no Finance Dept BS. I'm not in the market for a new rig now or in the immediate future. Nothing out there worth the price they want for it.

Congrats on you new truck! Just one question- You went to the dealer to get your oil changed?

With the Volt I did. Only needed to change oil once per year as the engine rarely ran. Since Volt has multiple coolinh systems and complex electronics I preferred the annual visit where any latent issues were uncovered.

My truck has free oil changes coming and when the free stuff ends, back to just changing myself.

No way I take my vehicles to a Quickie Lube. Around here I have yet to see one with employees that would inspire confidence.

I tried the USAA Car Buying Service once. I got a call from dealer down in America. I live in Alaska. Haven't wasted my time with since. I just buy local. Between my last two trucks I saved over $25k over the Monroney MSRP price.
