Took my car out for an oil change and ended up 'screw-ed"

"not having the slightest desire to buy a new truck until fall." Ha, ha! I think your actions say otherwise! :)

Enjoy your new truck. It will be a towing beast. Great torque curve.

Wow! The worst mileage I ever got with my 3.5 eb was 10 mpg. That was from western PA to NJ at about 70 mph. Not mountains for sure, but definitely not 7 mpg either.

lol..maybe they got better in later models.. mine was a 2013. Rear end ratios have a lot to do with gas mileage.

What were you pulling at 70mph? That milage seems high at those speeds.

Now I now pull a much bigger RV but only get about 11mpg with a F350 SD diesel.

Beats the **** out of my boating days when I got 0.7mpg..lol

I’m sure Titanmike will give us feed back on his experience. Not sure how big his RV is. Our Rockwood 2604WS was 30’ and north of 7000 lbs. Never towed it at 70mph…

I strongly suggest you join the F150 forum. You’ll find out more than you care to know about your truck.

Strongly agree on the F150 Forum.

I just learned that you can enable trailer side view camera at speed. Turns on the side camera when you use the turn signal - turns on the camera to view your blind spot. Works on 2023+ trucks, OTA software update may enable for older trucks. Only works while towing.

Full list of what can be changed is in an excel spread sheet that is in post 1 in this thread: https://www.f150forum.com/f129/forscan-14th-gen-f150s-481816/

I've bought motorcycles like that, have the bike in the shop for something and end up riding a new one home!
Glad you are happy, I think all the big 3 make a great truck and the Ford offerings certainly are comfortable.
Hope it gives you a long life of no maintenance.

Did the same with a motorcycle too. Old one in for service and rode home on a new one. Wife (of that time) saw me come home and said "that's not the one you left on". Told her I got that one so there'd be more room on her end of the seat (she was pregnant at the time) so she saw it as a good idea. 17 years later I traded HER in.:D

As for mileage displays, I always confirm what they're telling me. Always use trip miles and gallons to fill tank for the old fashioned way. Even use old school paper and pen to do the math.

One thing I noticed as I looked at offerings from the "big 3" plus Nissan and Toyota was that Ford seemed to do a better job of focusing on towing, especially in the "1/2 ton", 1500, 150, model lines.

"The others" require a much larger (and thirsty) engine to get the same payload/GCWR when gasoline powered. The diesels offered in the "1/2 ton" group were not all that more powerful than the 3.5 Ecoboost which is head and shoulders more powerful than my old 305 Hp/ 375 ft/lb torque powered Titan.

Note: I had a hard time resisting the urge to just stand on the accelerator pedal when test driving on an open stretch of the freeway. I did manage to reign in my inner teenager. :D

My 2018 MicroLite weighs 6300 when I take it across the scale loaded for a month long trip.

I tend to tow ~60 mph which is pretty much the limit with vehicles towing in our West Coast States. WA, OR, and CA post "vehicles with trailers follow Truck Speed. That's 60 in WA, 55 in CA . Just following the trucks in the RH lanes for the most part has given me the best mileage which with my Titan peaked at 8.6-9 mpg over my recent 3,000 mile trip.

Won't be long and I'll have the trailer back out on the road and am anxious to see how it does.

Believe it or not, the Ford Owners Manual says "No Towing for first 1,000 miles". No problem here. It'll take me that long to figure out all the items that show up on both the Dash Display and over on the HUGE Info Screen. That screen is almost the size of my large screen laptop. I still haven't figured out all that's included. Every drive has revealed another two or three surprises.

What the heck are you doing here? I know you from the 1600 forum.

Not a very heavy camper, it’s 6000# gross weight. I actually get pretty good mileage if I keep it in a sweet spot at around 62. I’m never in a hurry and keep to the right lane. The truck gets just a little less mpgs than my Acura RDX in general driving.

I religiously use aCar - Car Management, Mileage by Fuelly, LLC to keep gas usage. Allows me to get stats for towing vs regular usage, etc. Free in Google Store. I don't sync my usage, instead I periodically backup the data to my laptop. On my truck I've got 11.3 mpg overall on 19,727 miles, 19.7 mpg not towing, and 8.8 avg mpg - 6.0 min mpg - 14.5 max mpg over 16,951 milestowing. I suspect that my last trip going thru the Rockies didn't help getting higher numbers.

For Mike - be aware, you can get Eco or boost. Depending on your choice, YMWV! :signhavefun:

Don't do it!!:)
You find out about too many things to do to it and spend even more money on it.
But I like the way I have personalized my truck because of it.

With this in mind I think I'll hold off on joining. I've already spent a lot on adding things the truck didn't come with (bed mat, weather tech floor mats, hard foldable tonneau, cargo tie-downs). My checking account needs a breather :)

Did get a surprise though. Checked for a set of tire chains for new truck. Found that ones for Titan, which are fairly expensive set, are same for new truck. Saved $120.

Echoing SailorSam, I too recommend using the Fuelly app. Works like pen/paper to calculate true mpg and keeps a log of all your fills. The onboard mpg readings on both the Ranger and F-150 are a bit generous.

Congratulations

Yesterday was certainly an expensive day. Took my car to the dealer for an early morning oil change appointment. While waiting I wandered into the showroom and talked to a salesperson about what they had for a new truck I was thinking about buying this fall. Ended up with a quote and left not being particularly impressed with their offer.

Went home and cut some fresh flowers that I took to my Daughter at her place of work. Now faced with the rest of the day to find something to do I stopped at a dealership for a different brand to see what might interest me, again not having the slightest desire to buy a new truck until fall.

That's when I got "SCREWED":)

It was a Ford Dealership and I started looking at different F-150 Supercrews, just wanting a quote on one that fit my needs/desires.

Started looking around 1PM and didn't get home until 8:30 PM. Ending up leaving my 2017 Chevy Volt behind and driving home with a really nice, brand new 2023 F-150 Supercrew 4X4 with 3.5 Ecoboost, 7150 GVWR, 16,800 GCWR. With my trailer attached, and me aboard, I will be able to load up another 900# of "stuff" in the truck about 500# more than I have ever carried before.

400hp and 500 lb/ft (or ft/lbs if you prefer) of torque will certainly take some getting used to as well as seeing fuel mileage averages around 22+mpg with a non-diesel pickup. And then there's the 36 gallon tank which will probably carry me much farther than my bladder will allow:)

Even my Son, who saw it this evening, was duly impressed during his test drive.;)

Needless to say the "take home price" was one I couldn't pass up with all the incentives and discounts. Certainly didn't mind getting "SCREW-ed" like this

HMMM? if I no longer have the Titan (it will be gone soon) I might have to change my Screen Name

Note: Local Ford dealers don't seem to have any 2024 F-150's in stock but have a ton of new 2023's with nice "incentives". The one I took home was certainly well enough equipped for me so it being "last years model" was a non-issue. One I drove home was delivered wit 91 miles and that came from when it was transferred from another store in the "Dealership Group"

I did the same as you....got a great deal on a 2023 FORD F-150 XLT that I couldn't pass up! :signhavefun:

That's exactly how I ended up buying a 2023 Stingray. I didn't plan on buying until the end of 2023. I call myself allowing her to test drive a used one when we were on a camping trip in June during our spare time. She was narrowing down her pick of vehicles and I just wanted to see if she liked how the Vette drives. Needless to say, we ended up buying one the dealership had in the back getting prepped. New Rule: No window shopping until you PLAN to buy.

Here it is before adding tonneau cover.

Will get some aftermarket wheel well inserts which for some reason are no longer standard equipment. Non-Ford ones look the same but are less than half what Ford wants.

Nice looking truck Mike! Not sure if it would be what you wanted but I bought 2 cans of Rust-o-lium Undercoating and sprayed the rear wheel wells. It's been years and there isn't any sign of it wearing through or peeling off.

BTW - would it be SCrewedMike? I feel I can say that since I'm a SCrew owner as well!

I'm planning on just undercoating the white wheel wells too. Just waiting for warmer weather. Might even look into spray on bed liner if a DIY kit isn't too expensive.

Nice looking truck. I also have an oxford white screw - installed Husky wheel well liners. Good luck with your new ride!
