Toppers over slides filling with water

I have a 2017 Cedar Creek Hathaway 36CK2. Our toppers over our slides fill with water when it rains and do not drain properly until we close them. I believe the weight of the water is stretching them out also. Forest River said they could possibly remount them at a proper angle but I am leary on new holes and patching old ones. Anyone have this problem and how are you handling it? Any help with be appreciated ?

There are a few posts on this topic that you may find useful by doing a search. Some people put things under the awning to prop it up. Partially inflated beach balls worked for me. Just dont forget to remove them before pulling the slide in.

Mine hold water too. It runs off when I close the slides. 2 1/2 years later they aren't stretched. My slides are out 95% of the time all year. They aren't awnings.

Yep, sometimes longer ones hold some water. For me, I don't care. It comes off when closing or evaporates on own. You can always raise the front or back a little and it will run off too. Other suggestions work too.

On all the rigs I've had with toppers, the water never did any damage to the fabric. It always shrinks back tight once rolled up.

I'd sooner have a little water on the topper cover than on the slide out roof. Shorter toppers never collected water.

Same issue on my Rockwoods. I just raised the tongue to do a dump prior to restarting the slides. I don’t have toppers on my new Bighorn. We camp by the lake and the wind slapping the fabric is a pain.

There is a way to tighten the slide topper but it may take a couple of hours. It gives the birds a place to bathe so I just leave it alone. I have included the instructions from A&E/Dometic.

2 small beach balls work for me. I don't let the water pool. It stains the fabric.

My solution was to just remove them. I found them to be nothing but a PITA.

Who installed the slide covers? When you state," Forest River said they could
possibly remount them At a PROPER ANGLE someone made a Error! Was it them ? Youroo! !

We have the same problem on our Windjammer. We don't do anything about it as we live in a fairly windy location so it gets blown off, however the previous owner used blow up beach balls under the covers which made the rain run straight off. Novel I know but worked.

There is most likely some slack in the awning so no harm having water weight on it. I can remember just rolling the slide in and out a few times during heavy rains on my first tt. Sold it @5 years old and they had no damage.

We have slide toppers on the wicked kitty. The long over the living/dinner room sometimes holds water and sometime does not. The problem we have is a window needed to be eliminated to install the rail correctly. It needs to be raised at least 1 1/2 inches. If we could raise the rail we would have no water on the slide topper. Moral of story. If you are installing the rail for the slide toppers make sure U mount it as high as U can.

I think it was Russ Demaris on rvtraveler.com did an article on this. He used 1/2" pvc, I used 3/4. My topper was 12' long, so I used 4 lengths perpendicular to rig, with T's 2/3rds of length from rig standing up with short pieces. Need to measure for height, put elbows on the end pieces, and T's on middle two. Divide the 4 lengths equally and put in connector lenghts. Glue to make it easy to take apart. Worked great. Love the beach ball idea,,, however I have no way to get up that high when camping !!!
I do remember the first time the wife was putting our back slid in after a rainstorm,,, ! like to watch a liston as she puts them in,,, Got a FREE SHOWER that day !!!

A ladder lets you dryoff the roof of the slide before pulling it in.

Ya I have looked @ those,,, don't really have any place to carry one in our little Sunseeker !!! I do carry a painters pole with soft brush,,, that I use on the MH awning,,, could use that to drain slid covers !!!
