How does this even happen?

Safety Cables? Wouldn't have happened if they were attached.

Emergency E-brake cable? If camper had electric brakes, why wasn't the electric brake emergency cable attached? Wouldn't have happened if it was attached and operational.

It appears to be an European trailer.
In my European travels, I never saw a trailer with a breakaway switch, especially the older ones.

Not to mention that those little soccer kid transporter minivans really aren't meant to haul trailers...let alone a camper that big!

It's quite common in Europe and their trailers are WAY lighter and have a very low profile.
