What to do with mattress over winter?

We've always left the mattress and a memory foam topper in the trailer. We've never had a problem with rodents or mold. However, we do like to get out of the snow and cold in our area and head south a few times each winter.. One thing we found out is that memory foam will freeze and become as hard as a rock. The first time we went winter camping we found this out. It was like sleeping on a giant ice cube LOL. Thankfully our body heat thawed the topper out pretty quickly. Now that we know it will freeze, we always turn an electric heater on in the trailer and leave it on the day before we leave. That way every thing gets thawed out.

Chuck - I'm in North East Ohio - I never thought about parking in a barn at the fairgrounds - an idea their rates? Where did you park yours?
We only remove perishable food from the camper. Ever. Camper gets packed for her next mission as soon as she returns from the last. This includes clean towels, bedding (sleeping bags -- we don't make beds when camping), etc.

After the last trip of the season she went in a barn at the fairgrounds until spring when we lived in Ohio. Here in Virginia she gets covered.

There is, though, a big advantage in removing everything: You'll find you don't need all the stuff and only half will go back in. :)

Hahaha I figured this out the hard way last weekend. Our memory foam topper with “cooling” gel...definitely cooling when it’s 25 degrees outside!
