Why Is the WHP (Heat Pump) Wire Capped on My Coleman Mach Thermostat?

Just had my thermostat off the wall. Was trying to adjust it with the slide in and it came off in my hand... Slide out is is much easier to remount.

I noticed that the Whp, heat pump white wire is capped. Is that normal ?

All the wires going in are hot glued inluding the Whp. I suspect that is done at Coleman before shipping.

Electric furnace seems to run, air conditioner runs. So I'm curious.

From Coleman the wires are labeled as below.
Label on Thermostat Definition

R Voltage input (+12V)
B Ground
Y Compressor output
GH Fan high output
GL Fan low output
W Gas heat output
WHP Elec heat output1
SENS External sensor input

For those that replaced the thermostat would a honeywell work ? We have one in our home that we like. I need to measure the clearance to see if the slide will clear it.

A household thermostat will most likely not work as they operate on 24 volts.

Ah... I was unaware...
There are home thermostats that will work in a R/V if they operate on batteries. (usually AA)

There are several past threads on using one and there's at least a couple YouTube vids out there as well.

Well, do you have the Air conditioner model that includes the electric heat feature or not? If not, it makes sense to cap off the control wire.
