I want to try winter camping but not sure if I trust the tank heaters, what temperature sure I start to worry about them freeze

Back to the OP's question....

Tank Heaters typically keep the contents at 40-44° F (4-6°C )

Your bigger concern will be your fresh water hose. If you plan on doing a LOT of winter camping, you can buy a heated fresh water hose, but you need to make sure that the spigot is well insulated or heated as well.

The simple fix is to disconnect your hose, have a ½ a tank of fresh water and use it in the morning to shower/whatever and re-hook your hose to the spigot when the temps are above freezing.

And to add to this if it is FREEZING check your lowpoint drain hoses,your outside shower box,your water pump,your filter,any water lines near a O/S wall for just a FEW things to check! This Only applies if it is Freezing! Youroo!! Buy the way Most C/G where it is Freezing will NOT have a Hydrant to hook up to!

I have been to several campgrounds that have insulated and heated spigots AND a receptacle at the spigot for you to plug in your hose heater

I'm new to rving but also would like to do some winter camping. I'm worried about freezing up while towing if the temp gets down into the 20's F. I've been wondering about running the furnace while underway. I've read differing opinions about this but how else would you prevent freezing up if it gets that cold? My 5th wheel is a Wildcat Maxx 282RKX and has an all season package.

Your unit was probably MFG at the Western plant,might have More/Less coverage for Freezing weather? The Midwest units will Freeze up under 20 F conditions of continuous use! Several Mod's are needed for the 4th Season Use! Safe or Sorry your call! Youroo!! This is for Post # 10!

My Wikdcat Maxx was built in Oregon. It's a 282RK not the RKX which is a lighter weight model. Mine is "All Season" with tank heaters, 2 in wall insulation, and?. For the winter camping we'd like to do, low temps would be in the 20's warming to above freezing by day. What kind of mods are you referring to Youroo?
