Winterizing XL with Washer & Refrigerator Ice-Maker

Yea, with setup it's like 40 minutes max. I built an external pump and 5 gal setup with an air attachment. so it goes quicker than 1 gal at a time. Prefill the bucket and a helper just adds as needed, the excess goes down the drains into the tanks.

If I dewinterize for winter use, I leave the ice maker valve shut and buy bagged ice. May or may.not get the washer ready. I do use air to get the AF out, then push water in. Its quicker.

My Splendid washer/dryer combo says to run a cycle with hot then a cycle with cold - I run each until the pink stuff gets into the washer.

So I went thru the process, rather easily and quickly, until I got to the refrigerator. I ran more than a gallon of water thru the dispenser and never got a hint of pink coming thru. I pulled the filer and saw it had some pink on the end but that never made it to the dispenser. Is there a trick to getting that done? I know others say to run ice until you get a hint of pink in the cubes, but that will not happen currently. I did take a small amount of water in a solo cup and stuck it in the freezer about an hour and a half ago. It is not fully frozen but is damned sure a slushy right now.

did you remove the refrigerator water filter? they will filter the color out of the antifreeze. depending upon you model refrigerator you may need to take the filter out and replace it with a dummy filter or a bypass plug.

I tried to remove it but it stopped the flow when I did. I need to find a dummy for sure as new filters are $40 each.

I save an old filter and use it and then do the taste test. When de-winterizing I just run lots of water through that old filter and when there is very little taste pop in the new one.

Unfortunately the ‘dummy’ filter for ours was just about the same price as a real filter. But it is a one time cost. Or you can just leave it in all the time if you are using a filter on the incoming water line. There is also a HUGE price difference between genuine manufacturer replacement filters and generic ones.

My dynamax dealer tech told me for a dummy filter cartridge, that they just take an old regular filter, cut it open, pull out the guts and epoxy/glue it back together and use it as the dummy plug.
