Yellowstone Closed All Gates - Flooding

The park has been temporarily closed at all gates due to flooding and rock slides. No inbound visitor traffic will be allowed into the park until conditions stabilize and the park can assess damage to roads and bridges and other facilities. This includes visitors with lodging and camping reservations.

6/13/22 at 1:16 pm STATEMENT from Supt. Cam Sholly about temporarily closing all park entrances: “Due to record flooding events in the park and more precipitation in the forecast, we have made the decision to close Yellowstone to all inbound visitation."

I'm supposed to be making some day trips there in about 2 weeks. I'm not too hopeful that it's enough time to make a difference though. And it might be a while before I'm able to get back out there. I read that Red Lodge Montana is also experiencing some pretty bad flooding and that parts of Beartooth Pass near there are closed as well.

From the road damage being shown in news reports it may be a lot longer than a couple weeks before the park reopens.

Out in this part of the country we are seeing all the rain we didn't get over the last few years showing up this year.
 
Saw some Helicopter footage today. Quite a few LARGE sections of roadway are completely missing along the Yellowstone river. Won't be surprised if the park doesn't open for the remainder of the summer.

Ugh!!! I've seen enough rain this year already! We're supposed to head out the 26th for 6 nights in West Yellowstone and 3 in Jackson. Who knows what we'll actually get to see.

The statements on a couple Facebook groups of "Don't worry, there will be detours" don't sound promising. It's not like 3rd street is closed so just go to 2nd or 4th. The detours could be hours long and scores of miles.

We are still going and trying to make the best of it.

Within 2 hours of West Yellowstone are the Lewis and Clark Caverns and the Museum of the Rockies.

Anyone else have suggestions within 2 hours of West Yellowstone to entertain 3 kids, 11, 9 & 3?

I was there about 3 years ago, we stayed in Island Park, because work delayed our departure time, we spent a lot of time trying to get there that we could only do one day in the park ( our choice no other reason). Our friends headed to the Grand Teatons Jackson hole. We stayed rented a side by side, then later that day took a float down the river. Spent the final day fishing various spots on the river we were the only ones not fly fishing and we slayed the fish. Floating the river in the evening we saw deer and moose on the float.

I am pretty sure that video shows the Gardner River along highway 89 between the North Entrance and Mammoth. The Yellowstone is a much larger river. It will be a long time before that road opens! Devastating damage and devastating for the economies of the gateway communities. Gardner is completely isolated right now.
 
We are scheduled to be there Sep 5th through the12th..............Staying on the West side in Ashton, ID.

Hope it is opened and at least driveable by then.............We had this trip planned in 2019 but Covid killed it.......the Bad Luck never stops does it

We were supposed to leave Rexburg Idaho tomorrow morning for Woodbine Campground outside of Nye Montana, which is North of West Yellowstone. The current campers had to be evacuated in rafts Monday morning. The campground is closed until July 7th. I would expect Yellowstone to be closed at least that long.
 
It's b a d for everyone. Memories not made. Economies hurt.

Headed to West Yellowstone in early August, stop # 2 on a 3,400 mile trip.

Given that it's one of America's premier National Parks, I'd expect the Corp of Engineers or the like to make a massive effort to reopen the park as soon as possible.

Is there anyone reading this that's currently in Yellowstone?

I'm wondering how the Fishing Bridge near Fishing Bridge Campground is holding up and whether it's been damaged. I saw online and obtained further details by calling the road status audio recording available at (307) 344-2117 that Fishing Bridge Campground is still open, but the road is closed in both directions to inbound traffic (East Entrance Road from the entrance to the West side of Fishing Bridge). I'm just looking for more information.

Thanks for posting this...saw it yesterday right after you'd posted. Late yesterday afternoon I was visiting with a gal and 2 other folks stopped to chat (Custer, SD). They mentioned they were headed to Yellowstone and I asked if they'd heard about the floods/closures - no they had not! So they jumped on their computer and got the latest. Certainly not the best news, but better to know about it early and be able to investigate the situation and go to plan B if necessary.
